St. Agnes Academy Presents 'Into the Woods'
Lights! Camera! Action!
Are you ready to be transported into a magical world full of fantastical creatures?
All your favorite characters, from Rapunzel to the Big Bad Wolf will be coming to St. Agnes, performing in a show that you don’t want to miss!
Matthew Martinez, a senior at Strake Jesuit, plays the wolf, and he is the understudy for the steward.
What’s your favorite part about playing the wolf?
Matthew: My favorite part is probably being able to dance with a tail!
Why should people come see Into the Woods?
Matthew: For starters, it’s the first show in the new theater. The cast and crew have worked especially hard to bring this show to life, and I guarantee that if you’ve ever seen Into the Woods, you’ve never seen it like this before!
What is the most exciting part about doing this musical?
Matthew: The directors threw us for a bit of a loop when they decided to go for a more westernized Into the Woods. I think when we first heard about this, we were a little nervous but it really led to more definite character choices that helped us to tell the story in a really unique way. The idea is to create an American fairytale - it’s a story about wishing and dreams with questions of morality and justice but at the heart of it all it’s a show about family and I think that’s what we really strive to get across.
Ms. Handy, the staging/acting director; Mr. Wood, the director of music; Ms. Castro, the director of crew and backstage; and Jessica Bonnen (’19), the stage manager, have all worked very hard to make this a jaw-dropping performance! Watch the official promo video here!
