"Mother's Day: The Forgotten Victims of Death Row"

Mother's Day film

"Mother's Day" tells the story of five women whose children were condemned to die.

“Mother’s Day: The Forgotten Victims of Death Row” will have its first Houston screening on Tuesday, April 9, 7 p.m., at the Rice University Media Center. Following the film is a discussion with the director Linda Broocks.

Between 1976 and 2016, the U.S. executed more than 1,400 people. The mothers of many of the condemned men and women testified at trial, pleading for the lives of their children. "The intense grief these women feel is unacknowledged by society. Each of these mothers has a story to tell. This film presents just a few," says Linda Broocks.

"Mother's Day" was shown in London last month at the North Europe International Film Festival, London Edition. The director, Linda Broocks of Houston, received the Rising Talent Award at that festival. The film also won Platinum Remi Awards at Houston WorldFest in 2017 and 2018. It received the Audience Choice Award and Best Director Women in Film at IndieFest in Austin in 2017. The film's trailer may be viewed here.

The Rice Media Center is located on the Rice University campus, 2030 University Blvd., Entrance 8, University Blvd. at Stockton.
