Ovarcome’s Annual Gala, Teal Amour: Soirée à Paris was held at the Westin Houston, Memorial City with more than 315 people in attendance. Sonja Bruzauskas, accompanied on the piano by Anita Kruse, sang an original song created especially for ovarian-cancer survivors, supporters and caregivers. Artist Jason Rosenthal received the 2019 Overcame Excellence Award. His wife died of ovarian cancer after 26 years of marriage, and he’s now the board chair of the nonprofit Amy Krouse Rosenthal Foundation. Dr. Lorenzo Cohen of MD Anderson Cancer Center, Carolyn Allsen of Memorial Hermann Cancer Center and Buck Dodson of the SPB Foundation received the 2019 Ovarcome Heroes Awards. Honorees were Rachel Bradbury, Debbie Bisbano, Mandi Chambless, Elayne Adams and Jean Nichols (posthumously). Sharron Melton emceed.
