74K challenge
The Kidney Cancer Association, a Houston-based nonprofit, hosted the 74K Challenge to honor the nearly 74,000 people who will be diagnosed with kidney cancer this year. The goal of the virtual challenge was to encourage physical activity and raise funds for kidney cancer research. Participants were invited to create their own community fundraiser by selecting an activity they enjoy and inviting others to support their team. Ruben Ybarra (pictured, on left, at a Texans game in 2013), a member of KCA’s board of directors, took on the challenge by pledging to swim 7.4 miles in memory of his brother, Robbie (on right), who died of kidney cancer in 2015. Ruben raised more than $2,000.
