The Center for Pursuit

More than 300 guests logged into YouTube and Zoom for the Homemade in Texas Luncheon, a live virtual event in support of the Center for Pursuit. Speakers were Dr. Peter Hotez, dean of the National School of Tropical Medicine, Baylor College of Medicine, and Dr. James McDeavitt, leader of Baylor’s Incident Command Center (which is responding to Covid-19) and senior vice president and dean of clinical affairs at Baylor College of Medicine. Khambrel Marshall moderated the interview with the doctors. The event began with a video from Mayor Sylvester Turner along with recognition to Tom Landis, founder of Howdy Homemade Ice Cream, who designed his company to employ people with all types of disabilities and Frances Castañeda Dyess, president of Houston East End Chamber of Commerce, where The Center’s new campus is being built. The Center for Pursuit helps empower people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Pictured is David Baldwin (on right), center foundation board member and chair of the board of trustees at Baylor College of Medicine, presenting Dr. McDeavitt (on left) with a jersey. Chairs Raj and Harsha Naran, Rishi and Shivani Naran, and Jeff and Prina Spillane were thrilled with the more than $170,000 raised.
