Honoring Ms. Phillips
Beloved Horn Elementary School PE teacher Grace Phillips recently passed away. Ms. Phillips taught for more than 40 years in HISD, including generations of Horn families, and will be missed. She brought many fun programs to Horn and was passionate about field day, Olympic days, kite days, teaching CPR to fifth graders and staff, teaching students to roller skate and square dance, parachute days and sharing her love for physical activity with the community. To honor Ms. Philips, Horn staff gathered for a balloon release and walked a lap in her memory. Horn students participated in a virtual “Ms. Phillips Day” by exercising for at least 15 minutes at home. The community was invited to collaborate on the “Grace Project,” a mural on the side of Horn using yarn and messages in Ms. Phillips’ memory. Pictured are (on left) Olivia Zager and (on right) Sarah Garber participating in the Grace Project.
