Strake Jesuit Breaks Ground on Loyola Hall

Strake Jesuit staff and students break ground on Loyola Hall.

Strake Jesuit College Preparatory hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for its new building, Loyola Hall, on December 7. This building will include classrooms and offices for administration. Projected to open in January of 2022, Loyola Hall will also serve as the new main entrance for the Strake Jesuit campus.

Loyola Hall, named after the school’s patron saint, Saint Ignatius of Loyola, will be built on what is currently an open field on Gessner Street. This building will be 80,000 square feet and include 19 classrooms, offices for faculty and staff, community space for students. In addition, its accompanying parking lot will provide 350 new parking spots, which is a 46 percent increase in parking space for students. All of these additions will be helpful going into the future as Jesuit plans to keep expanding its classes. 

One of the main reasons for adding this building is that it will allow the school to be an education option for all qualified students, regardless of financial situation. 

Loyola Hall is projected to open in January of 2022.

Strake Jesuit’s president, Father Jeff Johnson, S.J., said, “As we have increased our efforts with financial assistance to make sure Strake Jesuit is accessible, we have been able to grow our enrollment while continuing to improve the school in nearly every aspect.”

As the classes get bigger, Strake Jesuit must make sure it has enough space for these expanding classes, even after Loyola Hall is complete. 

“Loyola Hall will help us accommodate the many young men we have, and perhaps a few more, who want to become Men for Others,” said Father Johnson.  “Loyola Hall will give us flexibility to admit qualified young men who want a Jesuit, Catholic education.” 

This building will enhance the overall experience for future Strake Jesuit students, while giving more interested individuals the opportunity to attend the school.
