Charlie’s Angels
The “Charlie’s Angels” fundraising team, named in honor of Memorial Middle School sixth grader Charlie Amis, raised more money than any other group for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s (JDRF) One Walk. The Amis family, (pictured, from left) Brian, Tommy, Jordan, and Charlie, led the team and raised more than $50,000. Charlie was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when he was 10 months old, and the Amis family has been involved with One Walk ever since. JDRF’s mission is to turn Type 1 diabetes to “Type None.” In non-pandemic times, the One Walk event is held at NRG Stadium with thousands of participants. This year, the walk was held virtually. The Amis family walked in their neighborhood with fellow supporters and received more than 150 donations.
