Celebration in the garden
Houston Hospice's historic garden reopened to patients, families, and the community in December during a small ceremony in the Texas Medical Center. With grant funding, the newly renovated garden was restored to its original Holcombe House estate design, including wheelchair and hospital-bed access. The timing of the garden’s reopening aligned with Houston Hospice’s 40th anniversary, celebrated with an official recognition proclamation signed by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott. Houston Hospice supporters participating in the ceremony included (pictured, from left) Garden Club of Houston board members Vivie O’Sullivan, Isabel Lummis, Sue White (Houston Hospice board member), Julie Griffin, and Jenny Kempner; Cynthia Nordt, VP development, Houston Hospice; Sue Gaines, 29-year volunteer at Houston Hospice; Dr. Paul Mansfield, professor of surgical oncology at MD Anderson Cancer Center and Houston Hospice board chair; Rana McClelland, president and CEO, Houston Hospice; and Aida Matic, incoming VP of development, Houston Hospice.
