Jet setting for pets

More than 200 animal lovers “took flight” with Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston to the 8th Annual Wags & Whiskers Brunch and Pet Fashion Show. “Captain” (event chair) M.A. Shute led the virtual event, themed Jet Set Pets. IM’s team of Meals on Wheels drivers delivered a carry-on lunch from Phoenicia Specialty Foods for guests at home. Guests donned their best jet set or vintage attire along with Delta Airlines slippers, included in their carry-ons. IM board chair and “Co-Sr. Captain” Jay Harberg prepared guests with virtual boarding passes while “Lead Flight Attendant” Casey Curry served as emcee. Guests enjoyed “duty-free shopping” during the online auction and raffle. Pets took to the runway during the Pet Fashion Show at the Lone Star Flight Museum. The title of Animeals Top Pet was awarded to Rachel Feiertag with Zim (cat) and Kuma (dog). Coco and pet parent Ali Al Sudani won the People’s Choice Award. The Aviators Host Committee included Dr. Vasant Garg, Tyler Juergens, Paula Sutton, and Nadia Tajalli. The event raised more than $70,000 for the Animeals program, which provides free pet food and vet care to 1,300 dogs and cats of homebound seniors.
