Happy Friday and April Fools' Day! We hope you enjoy this silly day and a fun weekend at some of the many spring shindigs happening around town:
Houston Arboretum’s Spring Plant Sale
Spring is one of the best times to garden in Houston, so get ready during Houston Arboretum’s Spring Plant Sale! The plant sale is being held today and Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. A variety of Texas natives will be featured, including perennial and annual wildflowers, grasses, shrubs, and trees. Attract butterflies, bees, and other pollinators to your yard or garden while helping to conserve water, reduce mowing, protect the soil, and save money on fertilizer and pesticides. Admission to the fall plant sale is free, and plant prices are as follows: $4.50 – 4 inches, $11 – 1 gallon, $12 – milkweed, and $30 – 3 to 5 gallons. The sale will be located inside the Arboretum’s 610 Entrance gate on the south side of the entrance road.
Party at the Pavilion Featuring Thunder Pants
Join Bellaire neighbors tonight at 7 p.m. for totally rad live music from the '80s cover band Thunder Pants on the Great Lawn at Bellaire Town Square. Plus, chow down on some food from Foreign Policy Food Truck. This free concert is brought to you by the City of Bellaire and PATRONS for Bellaire Parks.
The Houston Brass Quintet at Colonial Park Pavilion
West University Place Parks and Recreation Department is kicking off their Colonial Park Pavilion All Outdoor Event Series tonight at 7 p.m. with a free, fun, family-friendly concert! The Houston Brass Quintet will play classic brass band favorites as well as new hits that will have you and your family dancing the night away. The Colonial Park Event Series will continue with events throughout April.
Remember When Rock Was Young - The Elton John Tribute
Miller Outdoor Theatre is opening its 2022 season at 8 p.m. tonight with this fun musical experience starring Craig A. Meyer. This performance captures the music, costumes, and charisma of Sir Elton John, and has been shown throughout the United States and internationally. All Miller performances are free, and if you can’t make it, the performance will also be livestreamed on their website, YouTube channel, and Facebook page.
Bellaire Library Book Sale
The Friends of the Bellaire Library's Spring Book Sale will be held Saturday, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Bellaire Fire Station. Browse through books at their very first “FIRE SALE” inside the designated fire station bays, rain or shine. Held twice each year, the book sales are the major fundraisers for the Friends and proceeds benefit the City of Bellaire’s Library. Adult hardback books are $2; adult paperbacks are $1; children’s hardback books are $1; children’s paperbacks are $0.50 each. Adult and children’s book sets range from $2-$5.
Via Colori
Enjoy this free, family-friendly event in downtown at Post HTX. This street painting festival will bring together hundreds of student, amateur, and professional artists to create beautiful chalk masterpieces while celebrating Houston’s diversity. The festival will be open on Saturday and Sunday starting at 9 a.m. This event will also feature live music, a children’s creative area, and expansive hospitality options for a weekend of artistic expression and community connection. This event will benefit The Institute for Spirituality and Health at the Texas Medical Center, raising awareness and funds to support The Institute and its education, platforms, and programs at the intersection of spirituality and health. The festival will close at 7 p.m. on Saturday and 5 p.m. on Sunday.
Memorial Villages Food Truck Rodeo
Memorial Villages Police Foundation presents the Memorial Villages Food Truck Rodeo on Saturday at Chapelwood United Methodist Church, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Look forward to great food, music, family-friendly fun such as an inflatable slider, face painter, and a mechanical bull, exotic cars, and more.
Night Light presented by Buffalo Bayou Partnership and Aurora Picture Show
Buffalo Bayou Partnership and Aurora Picture Show will present Night Light, Saturday, 7:30-10 p.m., a uniquely Houston evening of free video art along the waterfront. The free event will feature large-scale video projections by a diverse lineup of local artists in three locations on a stretch of Buffalo Bayou East trails. Attendees can experience the artwork by traveling along the trails via bikes or on foot while enjoying music, food, and goods from neighborhood vendors. Night Light is funded in part by the City of Houston through Houston Arts Alliance.
Tour De Houston
Cyclists of all skill levels will gather at City Hall on Sunday as the Tour de Houston event returns for the 15th year. The ride benefits the Re-Plant Houston Program managed by the Houston Parks and Recreation Department. The ride kicks off at City Hall and participants will travel west along Allen Parkway, with scenic views of Buffalo Bayou, the new tunnels on Memorial Drive, and northwest through Spring Branch, Cypress, and back to City Hall.
Ukraine Benefit Concert Featuring Christina Wells and Ken Medema
St. Luke’s United Methodist Church will host a benefit concert supporting relief efforts in Ukraine on Sunday, 7 p.m. with special musical guests Christina Wells and Ken Medema. All proceeds from both ticket sales and donations will go to UMCOR - the United Methodist Committee on Relief, to assist those in Ukraine as well as Ukrainian refugees who have fled to neighboring countries. Tickets: $25/adults, $15/children 12 and under.
Houston Rockets vs. Minnesota Timberwolves
The Rockets face off against the Timberwolves for the Rockets’ penultimate home game of the season, Sunday, 6 p.m.
