Lorelei de la Reza’s Rainbow Smoothies
Red Watermelon-Berry Smoothie
6 cups watermelon chunks
½ cup pineapple juice
1 fresh lime, juiced
½ cup fresh or frozen strawberries, raspberries, or cherries, or a combination
¼ cup fresh or frozen blueberries
Red Berry Smoothie
3 cups Tri-juice blend from H-E-B (orange/strawberry/banana) or orange juice
2 cups frozen/fresh strawberries or raspberries or cherries or blueberries or combination
1 lime, juiced
1 banana
Orange Smoothie
3 cups orange juice (or H-E-B’s orange-peach-mango juice)
1 large or 5 baby carrots
1/3 cup cooked sweet potato
1/3 cup frozen peaches
1/3 cup frozen mangoes
2 bananas
If the smoothie is too thick, add orange juice to thin it.
Yellow Smoothie
1 cup orange juice
1/3 cup pineapple juice or 2 fresh pineapple rings
1 cup peach yogurt (Lorelei uses almond or soy yogurt to make the smoothie vegan)
1/4 cup fresh or frozen peaches
2 bananas
Carrot Cake Smoothie
It tastes like carrot cake, but you don’t have to turn on the oven.
2 cups almond milk (unsweetened vanilla) or other plant milk
2 carrots - enough to turn the smoothie bright orange
1 tablespoon sweetener - agave, maple syrup, or date syrup
Dash of cinnamon
2 bananas
1/3 cup cooked sweet potato, optional
Green Smoothie
2 ½ cups pineapple juice
½ cup orange juice
1 apple
1 pear
2 bananas
1 very large handful washed spinach
Blue/Violet Smoothie
1 cup orange juice
1/3 cup pineapple juice or 2 fresh pineapple rings
½ cup blueberry yogurt (Lorelei uses almond or soy yogurt to make the smoothie vegan)
¼ cup fresh or frozen blueberries
2 bananas
Brown Smoothie
"When you mix colors, you get mud!" Lorelei says.
2 cups pineapple juice
1 apple
½ cup dark cherries
1 handful spinach
½ lime, juiced
1 banana
Chocolate Milkshake
1 1/2 cups almond milk (unsweetened vanilla) or other plant milk
1 tablespoon (heaping) chocolate drink powder
1 tablespoon (heaping) nut butter (almond, cashew, or peanut)
1 avocado
2 bananas
Basic guidelines:
• Use organic ingredients when available.
• Blend all the ingredients together on high speed in a 6-cup blender.
• Exact proportions are not critical. If you like the ingredients you are putting into the smoothie, you will like the smoothie.
• Be creative!
• Bananas can be frozen when ripe. Cut them and put them into ice cube tray compartments for freezing, then store the frozen chunks in a freezer bag.
• Refrigerate smoothies.
• Shake very well before serving.
