Happy Friday! There’s a lot to look forward to this weekend, including:
The Original Greek Festival
Opa! The Original Greek Festival is back this weekend at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral. Enjoy authentic Greek food, live music, dance programs, Cathedral tours, crafts and gifts, and more. The festival kicked off on Thursday and continues today, 11 a.m.-10 p.m., and Saturday, 11 a.m.-10 p.m.
Party at the Pavilion Featuring Max Flinn
PATRONS for Bellaire Parks and the City of Bellaire hosts Party at the Pavilion tonight at 7 p.m. at Bellaire Town Square, featuring local country artist Max Flinn. Coffee-Q Food Truck will be onsite. Personal coolers are allowed.
Movies Under the Stars: Hotel Transylvania: Transformania
Enjoy a movie under the stars at Market Square Park tonight, 7 p.m. Watch Hotel Transylvania: Transformania (PG) with the family. Lawn chairs and blankets are recommended and food and non-alcoholic beverages are welcome. Niko Niko’s is on site for delicious food and beverages.
43rd Annual Festival Chicano
The annual Festival Chicano takes place this weekend at Miller Outdoor Theatre. Friday performers (7 p.m.) will be Elida Reyna y Avante and La Fiebre and Saturday performers (7 p.m.) are Little Joe y La Familia and Ram Herrera.
Preseason: Houston Rockets vs. Toronto Raptors
The Rockets face off against the Raptors at Toyota Center in a preseason match up. The game takes place Friday at 7 p.m.
Texas Renaissance Festival
The Texas Renaissance Festival kicks off this weekend (Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m.-8 p.m.) with its Oktoberfest themed weekend. Immerse yourself in the Renaissance era with a huge variety of entertainment, activities, food and drink, shopping, and more. The festival continues through Nov. 27.
Friends of the Bellaire Library Fall Used Book Sale
Browse through books for a great cause at the fall used book sale hosted by Friends of the Bellaire Library, which supports Bellaire City Library programming and service efforts. Most books are priced at $1 for hardbacks and 50 cents for paperbacks. The used book sale is held in the bays at the Bellaire Fire Station, Saturday, 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
Bayou City Art Festival - Downtown
The 50th Annual Bayou City Art Festival takes place at Sam Houston Park downtown this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. More than 220 national and international artists will showcase a wide variety of art throughout the weekend. Plus, look forward to great food, music, and entertainment. Bayou City Art Festival, produced by Art Colony Association, Inc., benefits local nonprofits; this year, a portion of proceeds will go to ArtReach, Fresh Arts, Orange Show for Visionary Art, Second Servings, The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and The Women’s Fund for Health Education and Resiliency.
Kemah Boardwalk's Craft Beer Festival
Cheers! The Kemah Boardwalk is hosting its annual Craft Beer Festival on Saturday, Oct. 8, 2-5 p.m., where visitors can sample more than 72 craft beers from 24 unique breweries. Attendees can also enjoy live music and Bratwurst samples and giveaways, while supplies last. Gary Kyle will take the stage from 2-6 p.m., and Houston Skyline Band will perform from 6-10 p.m.
Mi Casa, Your Casa Installation
Discovery Green’s new art installation, Mi Casa, Your Casa by Esrawe + Cadena, features 16 glowing house-like play structures where visitors are invited to sit, swing, and relax together. The Opening Night celebration takes place on Saturday, 6-10 p.m. and will include performances such as acrobatic dance group Lifted by Mimbre. There will also be live performance action painting by Ange Hillz to sounds spun by DJ Monstaa and live piano played by DJ Pee Wee from The Too Laid Back Band. There will be more events to look forward to this fall. The installation is open through Nov. 14.
Houston Dynamo FC vs. LA Galaxy
The Houston Dynamo face off against the LA Galaxy at PNC Stadium, Sunday, 4 p.m.
