Happy Friday! Here’s a list of fun happenings to keep in mind as you plan your weekend:
Third Annual Galveston Island’s Esports Summit
Gamers will want to head to Galveston this weekend for the third annual Esports Summit, held at the Galveston Island Convention Center, Friday-Sunday. The convention center will be transformed to a hands-on play experience for all ages. There will be a wide range of options, including virtual reality, gaming tournaments, robot battles, educational panels, professional and personal development resources, and more. Summit hours are Friday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Saturday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m., and Sunday, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. General admission includes Friday: $40; Saturday: $50; and Sunday: $40, or a three-day pass is $100.
Summer Nights at MFAH
Tonight, 6-9 p.m., is the last in the Museum of Fine Arts Houston’s Summer Nights series. Don’t miss your chance to spend time at MFAH while enjoying a cocktail, listening to live music, and chatting with curators. Tickets are $40 and includes a complimentary drink and access to all exhibitions.
Sugar Land Space Cowboys vs. Reno Aces
Cheer on the Sugar Land Space Cowboys as they play against the Reno Aces at Constellation Field this weekend. The schedule is as follows: Friday, 7:05 p.m., Saturday, 7:05 p.m., and Sunday, 6:05 p.m. Sunday is Astros' mascot Orion's Birthday, so there will be an Orion Jersey giveaway to the first 2,000 fans. It's also Orion's Kids Day, featuring a pregame catch on the field, player autographs, postgame Kids Run the Bases presented by Caldwell & Steinbring.
Peter and Wendy – Family Dance Theatre Produced By Open Dance Project
Peter and Wendy takes a fresh look at the classic Peter Pan tale through performances on aerial silks and trapeze. The performance, intended for family audiences, will dazzle attendees of all ages. Peter and Wendy takes place at Miller Outdoor Theatre tonight at 8 p.m. and is free to attend.
Family Movie Night: Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves
Texas Children’s presents Family Movie Night at Levy Park tonight at 8 p.m. Join for a free screening of Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (PG-13). Based on the popular roleplaying game, the film follows a band of thieves on the hunt for a valuable relic.
Movies Under the Stars: In the Heights
Bring a lawn blanket and free movie screening of In the Heights at Market Square Park, tonight, 8 p.m. In the Heights (PG-13): In Washington Heights, N.Y., the scent of warm coffee hangs in the air just outside of the 181st St. subway stop, where a kaleidoscope of dreams rallies a vibrant and tight-knit community. At the intersection of it all is a likable and magnetic bodega owner who hopes, imagines, and sings about a better life.
Back-to-School Bash at Children’s Museum Houston
Celebrate back-to-school season at the Children’s Museum’s Back-to-School Bash, which takes place on Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Fun activities include balloon artists, an inflatable obstacle course (for kids ages 5+), breakdancing performances, and more. General admission.
National Dog Day Celebration at Kirby Ice House
Kirby Ice House’s Upper Kirby location is celebrating National Dog Day with a fur-tastic event. The bar is partnering with Tito’s Vodka and BARC Animal Shelter & Adoptions to offer $5 Kirby Frescas and Tito’s Greyhounds. Drink purchase will benefit BARC. The paw-ty takes place on Saturday, 11 a.m.-5 p.m.
Houston Dash vs. Kansas City Current
The Houston Dash take on the Kansas City Current at Shell Energy Stadium, Saturday, 7:30 p.m. Tickets start at $10.
Trace Of Time Produced By Apollo Chamber Players at Miller Outdoor Theatre
Trace Of Time, produced by Houston-based Apollo Chamber Players, is a journey of musical discovery and cultural connections, from spirituals to the evolution of the tango. The program showcases music by Adolphus Hailstork, Astor Piazzolla, and Latin Grammy-winning composer and bandoneon performer Hector Del Curto, and features Texas’ premiere tango duo Hugo Patyn and Celina Rotundo. Trace Of Time takes place at Miller Outdoor Theatre, Saturday, 8:30 p.m., and is free to attend.
