Westbury Christian’s Homecoming Week
That time of year has arrived once again: Westbury Christian’s Homecoming Week! During the second full week of September, the most competitive, eventful, exciting week of the year called for everyone to put on their game faces, and bring it on. From outstanding outfits to crazy contests, this year’s homecoming week was for the books.
The week started with Color Day, with each grade coming together to dress as a singular color. Some amazing ideas included the freshmen dressing as smurfs, and the sophomores as purple minions from Despicable Me 2. The next day, Pajama Day, featured the junior class as kids from The Polar Express. The week started off well, but there were even more terrific ideas on the way.
On Wednesday, Character Day, the senior class dressed up as Men in Black characters. They even pretended to erase memories with a special pen, which the judges found to be a smart tactic. Then, the following day, every grade decided to show off their apparel for the one and only, Decade Day. Outfits inspired by Space Jam, Grease, and High School Musical made their way into the school halls, inciting compliments and friendly competition between grades.
Additionally, for every dress-up day, there were skits for every grade to perform based on their theme. Some memorable performances were the seniors’ storytime performance on Pajama Day, and the freshmen's Smurfs theme song performance on Color Day. Even choreographed dances were thrown into the mix!
Not only were the costume themes and skits absolutely hilarious, but so were the games as well. From the sophomores’ dominance in volleyball to the juniors’ victory in Tug of War, each grade stepped up to the plate to bring their class to the top. Although each grade won some and lost some, the overall competition will always be unmatched.
The final day, Blue and Gold Day, called for everyone to completely deck out in any Blue or Gold clothing and accessories they could possibly find. This was the day to be the most extra anyone could ever be, with school spirit written all over it. Every class showed out for this day, ending off the week with a bang… and with the juniors winning a Chick-Fil-A meal for spirit.
All in all, Wildcat Homecoming is an experience like no other. Of course, challenges, rivalries, and contests are all enjoyable events of homecoming every year. Even so, there’s more to Westbury Christian’s homecoming than just those concepts; it is a celebration of unity, and the incredible joy involved in being a Wildcat. Until next year, where more surprises await!
