Stratford Journalism Takes University of Texas

Four days in the summer The University of Texas hosts journalism students from all over Texas for the ILPC journalism workshop. This workshop offers multiple classes that specialize in photography, writing, broadcast, and yearbook, preparing students for perfecting their schools publications.

This summer, many Stratford students from both the newspaper and yearbook staffs participated in a three-day Interscholastic League Press Conference workshop at the University of Texas. It was a chance for the students to work together and brainstorm ideas before the beginning of the school year.

The workshop offered numerous classes that showed students new ideas and techniques that they could add to their publication. As a student in the photography classes, I found the lessons extremely helpful and came away with a lot of new information about how to use my camera and take better pictures.

As a photographer the workshop offered a special class on how to take better pictures and edit using Photoshop and Adobe Bridge. The photography class was held at the Belo Center for New Media on the University of Texas campus.

Teachers specializing in different areas of the journalism field taught many of the classes.
In all of the classes students had a project or assignment that needed to be finished by the end of the camp. In the photography class the assignment was to take pictures of the workshop and pictures with interesting and new techniques. This statue was one with fascinating light and color.
A photography student does not take a picture directly straight forward but with different angles. This student works on taking his shot from a worms eye view.
One class in particular, Yearbook Design, helped yearbook students work one the look and design of their yearbook pages for the upcoming year.
