While the rest of the school is enjoying vacations, hanging out with friends, and time off, the high school volleyball team is hard at work. Starting in the middle of June and lasting for five weeks, three days a week. The girls would practice for three hours working on drills and scrimmages.
“I think playing games and scrimmaging is the most fun. Sometimes the coaches play with us,” Lillian Lee, class of '15 said. Before the season starts the volleyball team has this camp to practice before the official start. This when the coaches decide JV and varsity teams.
"Camp allows us to work on specific things that we may be having difficulty on since the coaches have more time during the camp than the season," Renee Listi, class of '15 said. “It gets us in shape so we can last if we go into a 5th game.”
Of course the camp isn’t all fun. Lots of work goes into drills, and they can be very taxing. Drills can come from not communicating with each other during a scrimmage.
“Yeah, my least favorite part is being punished and having to run,” Lillian said. All of the training, scrimmages, drills, and running will pay off once the season starts. Both teams will play their first game August 12, and all of them are excited for the next season.
“I think we are going to do really well. We have some really talented new girls and the team itself has only been improving so I think we will even go farther than we did last year,” said Lillian.
