I don’t know about you, but for me, one the most exciting things about starting the school year is buying a new pair of shoes. I always pick them out a couple days before the year begins and then can barely wait to wear them. The smell of the new leather and the pop of the bold colors is enough to make anyone feel enlivened about the idea of lacing them up for the first time. They symbolize a fresh start; a new beginning for a new year. It’s also fun to see everyone’s individual styles. At Robert M. Beren Academy, we have a uniform, so being able to choose what goes on our feet allows us the freedom to express ourselves. Whether you’re girly and wear pink ballet flats every day, or sporty and prefer a pair of neon yellow Nikes, embracing who you are is a really important part of being in high school.
