West U's Arbor Day Celebration
The City of West University Place will hold its annual Arbor Day Celebration on Saturday, April 12, 9 a.m. The celebration will be held in conjunction with the Parks and Recreation Department’s Easter Spring Festival. Both events will be held at the Recreation Center, 4210 Bellaire Blvd.
Craig Koehl, West U’s Urban Forester, will be on hand to distribute handouts and answer questions regarding planting and preservation of trees. Residents may pick up one complimentary tree per household.
West U sponsors the annual Arbor Day Celebration as part of our participation in the Tree City USA program, which is operated by the Arbor Day Foundation. The city has participated in the program and been awarded a Tree City USA designation for the past 24 years. West
U achieves this designation because the city meets the four standards to become a Tree City USA community: have a tree board or department, a tree-care ordinance, a community forestry program with annual expenditures of at least $2 per capita, and an Arbor Day observance
and proclamation.
