Stanton City Bites

Stanton City Bites

I love hamburgers. The fact that I’m a hamburger fan is no secret. While I was having dinner recently at my very favorite Houston burger spot, Stanton's City Bites in Second Ward, I realized I’m like a kid in candy store when it comes to dining at this place. We were meeting some friends, and arrived a little early before the rest of the group.

Once I walked through the entrance, I immediately grasped that I did not recognize the place. Apparently, a major renovation (over the holidays I would find out) had been completed without my knowledge, and while new and shiny, they maintained a lot of the old feel I had come to love. While shocked, I was more eager to explore.

With full embrace, I went off to check everything out. Walking all over the space, peaking into the kitchen, checking out the new design, snapping photos with my smartphone, and I began seeking out every employee who walked by to share my excitement. However, I then started wondering – had the owner sold out? Were the burgers still perfection? And, then I was relieved as the owner, Teresa Fong, finally came out of the kitchen exhausted from the crowds who were dining at her place that evening. I grabbed her for a big hug, and we talked about the new look. I was one happy kid.

Now I was able to return to my table, relieved that the new and familiar were working hand in hand. While pointing out the changes to my group, my enthusiasm could not be contained. I could barely sit still, waiting for my favorite Bacon Cheeseburger to be brought to the table. When it arrived, the burger I have loved didn’t last long as I devoured it bite after bite. I was in still my element, even though my element had been remodeled!
