Frenchy’s Chicken

Frenchy’s Chicken

Fried chicken platter at Frenchy's Chicken.

My visit to Frenchy’s original Scott Street location was like taking a step back in time. Little has changed since its opening in 1969, and that includes the yummy creole fried chicken. At the window, I encountered friendly staff ready to take my order. My three-piece meal, all white meat, came with creole-spiced fries, a glistening honey-butter biscuit and a jalapeño pepper. The chicken has a seasoned crispy texture that tastes as good as it looks. The kick from the punch of the creole seasoning is a nice tease to juicy meat on the inside. The French fries are some of the best fast-food fries I have ever enjoyed, crispy with a tangy creole spice sprinkled on top. There is not a better biscuit around to accompany fried chicken. The sweetness from the honey-butter coating on the outside was mixed with the soft moist inside – nothing dry here. While there are other locations around Houston, the original Frenchy’s is still my favorite. Friendly, efficient service in a no-frills setting makes Scott Street a fried-chicken destination. This building is scheduled to be torn down in 2016, but a new Frenchy’s will rise in its place.
