Liberty Kitchen & Oysterette
While this oysterette is known for their fresh fish and seafood, Liberty serves a full-breakfast menu on the weekends only. The American Liberty Platter is its version of the all-American breakfast. I chose poached eggs, maple bacon, butcher’s sausage, potatoes, toast and a tomato-arugula salad. Other eye-catching items include Liberty Eggs Benedict, their version with braised pork belly, and Lee’s Biscuit in a box, which is a new creation every weekend. There are also pancakes and a la carte items including fresh fruit and sourdough toast. The interior space is crisp and stylish. The service is warm and friendly. This location is popular, so expect a wait after 8:30 a.m. Valet parking is available.
Served only on Sunday, the Dixie Fried Chicken Supper at Liberty Kitchen & Oysterette is popular with fried-chicken lovers. The care that goes into the preparation is intensive. The chicken is brined, marinated in buttermilk, and then double dipped in flour and batter. The result is pure comfort-food euphoria. The crunchy crust teams with a tender inside for the perfect marriage of flavors. Mashed potatoes and slaw along hot pepper sauce-spiked syrup and a peppery cream gravy are included to complement this southern feast. Chef Travis Lenig has called the fried chicken the best item on the menu, and I agree with his assessment. Liberty’s relaxing and warm atmosphere, with sparkling white tile floors and comfortable seating areas, adds to this Southern experience. Service is friendly and attentive. Make reservations in advance, as the immediate reservations are a little more difficult to come by.
