Tanisha Dighe
As a child I always wished to grow into a compelling and passionate writer. However, I doubted my abilities in writing until I attended a writing summer camp before my freshman year of high school. During my freshman year, my grades in English Literature improved and I joined the newspaper club. More important than an increase in grades, I finally realized that I actually love to write. This encouraged me to join clubs that promote writing for enjoyment in high schoolers. On top of writing, I am an active and involved athlete. After participating in competitive gymnastics for 12 years, I have taken up pole vaulting. In addition to my atypical choice of sports, my transient life also comes as an unusual surprise to many. I have lived as an expatriate in five countries which gave the opportunity to visit many more countries and experience different cultures. My international background makes Houston the perfect city for me. I appreciate the cultures represented in Houston whether it be through food, music, festivities, religion, or tradition. The internationality present in Houston makes this city unique, similarly, my school being an international school that provides not only the International Baccalaureate program, but also the French Baccalaureate program, makes The Awty International School a unique institute, which I hope to write about in the near future.
