Tri-umphant
Condit Elementary second graders Nicholas Nair, Jonathan Chiriboga and Mia Septimus and their friend Marcus Lewis, Jr. (from left) embarked on their first kids’ triathlon at the University of Houston. They swam 100 meters, biked three miles and ran a half mile to the finish. Some 1,800 participants worked their way through the course while parents cheered on the sidelines. The triathletes donned ankle bracelets with chips inside as they dove into the Olympic-sized pool one by one. Next they quickly ran to a transition area where bikes were lined up and changed into their shorts and a dry shirt. They walked their bikes to the start of the bike course and after, for the final leg of the race, ran a half mile to the finish line.
