The dropping of temperatures can only mean one thing: fall is coming. With fall, comes lattes, the changing of leaves (okay, maybe not in Houston…), and more importantly, homecoming! As cheerleaders and spirit groups rally up and football players practice in preparation for the big game, members of various sports teams and organizations, such as National Honor Society (NHS), Choir, and Student Council, set up booths for the new annual Homecoming Carnival that has now replaced the traditional parade.
With live performers and so many games and food vendors to pick from, it’s safe to say that the first carnival was a success. Carnival-goers were spotted chowing down on some warm and crispy Cane’s chicken, El Rey tacos, refreshing frozen yogurt from Orange Leaf, and snow cones served by MHS Band members.
Students of all ages participated in pie-eating contests, ring tosses, and many more activities provided for carnival-goers. Many people were seen walking around showcasing freshly painted tattoos done by NHS Members. Designs included a fierce tiger, mermaid, rainbows, stars and rockets, cars, and many more. This booth was a huge hit with all different age groups.
Also popular were activities that tested the carnival participants' throwing or kicking skills and were created and supervised by varsity teams from basketball, soccer, and lacrosse. Overall, the carnival was a blast and will only improve as the years go on so be on the lookout for the Homecoming Carnival next year!
