This fall, Buzz resident Randy Lerner entered the “Doritos Crash the Super Bowl” commercial contest. Contestants submitted a 30-second video for a chance to win $1 million. Winners’ commercials will air during the Super Bowl broadcast this Sunday.
Randy had a vision for his commercial and ultimately went to the residents at Brookdale Galleria, formerly known as The Hampton, for help in finding a talented “grandma” for his commercial. The residents were thrilled to be part of the process.
Ultimately, the commercial didn’t make it to the finals but Randy said it was a “very worthwhile journey” anyway and that everyone really put their all into it. They filmed at the Dynamo stadium and although it was challenging to balance the crowd, soccer teams, kids and “natural elements,” they had a great team working together, including a 95-year-old star, Gladys Kahn. Buzz editor Joni Hoffman’s mom, Blanche Abramson, even had a cameo appearance.
“My best memories are of the seniors at Brookdale Galleria who participated and the friendships I made along the way,” said Randy, “Their enthusiasm and energy was special.”
