Happy Friday! Here are a few buzzworthy events to check out this weekend:
Art Car Parade
One of Houston’s favorite festivals is rolling into town this weekend: the annual Art Car Parade. Every year, hundreds of thousands of people gather along Allen Parkway to see the spectacular, mobile works of art and celebrate all of the creativity and energy. The parade begins around 2 p.m. on Saturday but the festivities will take place all day. See the details.
Bellaire Trolley Run
This Saturday marks the 20th anniversary of the Bellaire Trolley Run, beginning at Bellaire City Hall. Run the 5K or participate in the 1-mile fun run/walk, then celebrate with the post-race party. See the details.
Green Run
The sixth annual green6.2 takes place at CityCentre on Saturday, beginning at 7:45 a.m. with a Chevron Houston Marathon-qualifying 10K, a 5K at 8:15 a.m. and a Kids K at 9:15 a.m. There will be plenty of pre- and post-race festivities going on in the plaza. See the details.
Helping the Hungry
Veda Chilakapati, a local fourth-grade student, is hosting Paint Away Hunger on Saturday afternoon at the Houston Food Bank. This passionate student has been awarded a Sodexo Foundation Youth Grant through Youth Service America, which supports her in leading a community service project that addresses the issue of childhood hunger.
At the Paint Away Hunger event, kids are invited to tour the Houston Food Bank and paint a bowl for a minimum donation of $25 to the HFB. The bowls will be auctioned at the May Empty Bowls Auction event benefitting the HFB for a minimum of $25. At least $50 per bowl will be donated to the HFB which translates into 150 meals! WorldFest
Starting Friday, April 10-Sunday, April 19, WorldFest provides the opportunity to see 51 features, 125 shorts, and participate in nine professional production master classes. The film screenings all take place at the AMC Studio 30 Cinema. See the details.
Run for the Rose
The 13th annual Run for the Raise will take place Sunday morning to raise awareness and funds benefiting The Univeristy of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center and Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital. Race-day activities include a Family 1K and a post-race party at NRG Arena. See the details.
