On Friday, Sept. 25, Memorial High School held another pep rally for their upcoming game that week. The courtyards were filled with the classic rock anthems, and you could basically feel everyone channeling their inner AC/DC.
Students are encouraged to dress up according to the theme, but the most fun part is that everyone takes this suggestion differently. Some people immediately think all black clothing, others prefer the “90’s grunge look” according to sophomore Emily Davis.

And then there was the pep-rally itself, which is always an interesting experience. Many exciting games are played and various performances are shown, including the MHS Markettes and cheerleaders. In my opinion though, the highlight of the rally was a lip-sync battle put on by a leader from the band and the theater department. Patrick Greer, representing the theater department, and Noah Kenner, representing band, had an incredibly fierce battle. Both students brought out their dance moves, and in the end a tie was called among each of them.

Oh, and who could forget the memorable dance number performed by the new Sophomore Varsity football players. This is a tradition at Memorial, where at one of the football season’s pep rallies, sophomores who have impressively earned a spot on the Varsity football team are essentially required to execute a practiced dance routine. It’s basically an initiation. This performance, assisted by several cheerleaders, was absolutely hilarious and the other highlight of the day.
As a student at Memorial, I’ve come to look forward to each pep-rally day. Admittedly, some of that excitement stems from the fact that the classes are cut a few minutes shorter, but for the most part they are just a great way to really feel connected to the school and a way for everyone to feel involved in the school athletic department. Overall, the day was rockin’.
