Some people find plastic pink flamingos in their yard on their birthday, but dog-walking friends Cheryl Frick, Court Greer, David Hoffman and Hank Lee surprised Mary Maxey by having a pallet of St. Augustine grass delivered to her house. Dubbed “Starbarks,” Mary’s porch has become a gathering spot for early-morning dog walkers, where owners sip coffee while their furry friends frolic in the front yard. Mary’s yard was definitely in need of some TLC, so neighbors took it upon themselves not only to purchase the sod but plant it as well. Mary was overcome with gratitude by what she describes as the most thoughtful birthday present ever. The next morning over coffee, the “weekend landscapers” admitted they would have slept better had they popped a couple of extra-strength Tylenols before bed.
