4th of July Parade and Celebration

Fun events are happening in Galveston all summer long, including the always-popular 4th of July Parade and Celebration.

Looking for something to do in Galveston this summer? Here’s a good start.

Bands on the Sand - Moody Gardens, 1 Hope Blvd., Friday and Saturday nights through Aug. 13; 6-10 p.m. Regional and local bands perform on Moody Gardens’ beach. Admission: $12.

Summer at the Seaport - Texas Seaport Museum, 2100 Harborside Drive, July 1, 8, 15, 22, 29, Aug. 5, 12; 2 p.m. Learn about life as a 19th century sailor aboard the 1877 tall ship Elissa. Admission: $3 under 5, $12 ages 6-18, $15 for adults.

Movie Nite on the Strand - Saengerfest Park, 2300 Strand, 7:45 p.m. Sat., July 2; 7:30 p.m. Aug. 6, Sept. 3. Family-friendly movies in the little park on the Strand. Admission: Free. 

4th of July Parade and Celebration - 37th St. and Seawall Blvd., Mon., July 4; 7:30 p.m. The 117th annual Independence Day celebration includes a parade down Seawall Boulevard, from  41st Street to12th Street, with a 20-minute firework show after the procession.  

Texas Country Music Series - Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier, 2501 Seawall Blvd., Thurs., July 7, 14, 21, 28, Aug. 4; 5-9 p.m. Dance along to country bands Thursday nights. Buy passes to enjoy rides or just walk around the pier. Admission: Walk-on pass: $7-10. 

Red, White, N Volleyball - East Beach, 1923 Boddeker Drive, Sat., July 9; 9 a.m. Hosted by the Gulf Coast Volleyball Association, this tournament has men, women and youth divisions, with free shirts given to the first 100 people to check in at 8:30 a.m. Admission: $25 per person, $50 per team. 

Music Nite on the Strand - Saengerfest Park, 2300 Strand, July 9, Aug. 13, Sept.10; 6-9 p.m. Live music, including Irish, rock and oldies. Admission: Free. 

Artwalk - The Strand, Sat., July 16, Aug., 27; times vary. Wander through art galleries and exhibits. Happens every 6-8 weeks. Admission: Free.

Galveston Heritage Festival - Kempner Park, Sat. Aug., 6; 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Learn about Galveston’s past. Explore cultures through food, music and performances. Admission: Free 5 and under, $5 ages 6-18, $10 adults. 

Phil Vassar Gulf Coast Big Brothers-Big Sisters Benefit Concert - The Grand, 2020 Postoffice St., Fri., Aug. 12, 7:30 p.m. Country music star Phil Vassar will perform to benefit Gulf Coast Big Brothers Big Sisters. Admission: Ticket prices vary.
