This summer, while some St. Agnes were traveling or laying on their couch watching Netflix (me), some rising seniors went out and found internships that would give them a taste of what the working world is like after college.
Emily Gonsoulin, a St. Agnes senior, interned at Opportune LLP, a business consulting and restructuring firm for the oil and gas businesses, this summer. Over the course of her internship, she compiled research like asset structure, capitalization structure, and capital expenditure about companies Opportune LLP was targeting for a larger research project as well as filed and occasionally stepped in for the receptionist. Emily loved her time with her company. “The experience really helped me learn about working in an office and, specifically, working in the oil and gas industry, which will help me later on when I have to figure out a career path,” she said.
Another senior, Anna Costantini, interned with prominent Houston area criminal defense attorney Chris Downey. At St. Agnes, Anna has taken the Introduction to Law class and is a member of the Mock Trial team; law has always intrigued her and she has considered pursuing it in college. Her average day consisted of following Mr. Downey to the courthouse to sit in on trials and jury selection and spending time at the Downey Law Firm offices where she would go through depositions and follow up with witnesses, giving her a real sense of what being a lawyer is like. After the whole experience, she told me that “while it definitely wasn’t as glamorous or thrilling as my favorite Netflix shows chalked it up to be, it was a really educational and interesting experience.”
