Happy Friday! Here are some events to look forward to this weekend.
Memorial Freshman Garage Sale
The treasure hunt begins this weekend at the Memorial Freshman Garage Sale. MHS students will be selling everything from furniture, books, housewares and toys to accessories, clothes, shoes, electronics and more. This event raises money so that all students of the class of 2020 will be able to attend their senior prom and other senior events.
Levy Park Grand Opening
We’re all buzzing about the Grand (re)Opening of Levy Park this Saturday. There will be a full day of fun, family-friendly, free activities, live music and performances starting at 10 a.m. . Mayor Sylvester Turner will cut the ribbon at 11 a.m. The park’s attractions include: a children's play area, climbing wall, 7-foot slide, a giant climbing sculpture, a boardwalk, a dog park with a water feature. Look forward to ongoing free events and activities in Levy Park.
Poe Elementary Garage Sale
Find furniture, housewares, toys, baby gear and clothing for the whole family at the 42nd Annual Multi-Family Garage Sale on Saturday. Proceeds go to Poe Cooperative Nursery School.
Kosher Chili Cookoff
Taste Houston's best kosher chili as teams compete in the Seventh Annual Houston Kosher Chili Cookoff. Celebrate the fellowship of the Jewish community with a day of food, live entertainment, contests, and family activities that raise funds for non-profit organizations.
Creole Heritage Festival
The Houston Creole Heritage Festival and Mardi Gras Parade celebrates Creole food, music and Creole culture while raising funds for community causes. Sample gumbo, boudin, etouffee and more at Saturday’s event at Discovery Green.
Free Skin Cancer Screening
This free skin cancer screening at Kelsey-Seybold will be open to the public. Patients will be screened on a first-come, first-serve basis. Several students from Robert M. Beren Academy worked with dermatologist Dr. Riva Collins to make this event happen. Read more about the skin cancer screening in this School Buzz blog post.
