Happy Friday! Time to dive right into summer now that school’s out. Here are a few events going on this weekend:
Party on the Patio Concert Series
The Party on the Patio concert series begins June 2 with local musical group Dee Dee & Mike and the Moondance Band. The concert series continues on Fridays in June. Enjoy the live music, relax on the lawn or splash in the pool.
Sizzling Summer Dance
It’s the last dance of METdance's 21st Season. Head to Miller Outdoor Theater Friday night and catch a new work by New York choreographer Emily Schoen and find out who wins the METdance's 2017 Emerging Choreographer commission awardee.
Free Press Summer Festival
Stage-dive into summer with a two-day music festival that spans the grassy bluffs of Buffalo Bayou. Each year, waves of Houstonians swarm Eleanor Tinsley Park. In addition to local musicians, the festival will feature many renowned artists -- including Lorde, Flume, Cage the Elephant, the Shins and Solange.
The Menil Collection’s 30th Birthday Party
The Menil Collection is celebrating its 30th birthday this Saturday. Lounge on the museum’s open lawn, tour the galleries and socialize with artists and art enthusiasts.
31st Annual AIA Sandcastle Competition
Beachgoers can wonder at the grand structures, artful characters and intricate designs - all crafted out of sand - at the 31st Annual AIA Sandcastle Competition in Galveston on Saturday.
13th Annual Empty Bowls at Houston Center for Contemporary Craft
Support the Houston Food Bank on Saturday by taking home a unique bowl handmade by a local artist at this lunch fundraiser. Empty Bowls is an initiative that reminds us of all the empty bowls in the community of Houston and the world; it raises funds for the less fortunate and fills their bowls.
Space City Food Truck Festival
Take your pick and order up at the Space Truck Food Truck Festival on Saturday. Guests can choose from a variety of options including the Chefs Seafood Corner, Tacolores, Midwest Connection and Abu Omar Halal while listening to musical performances by Roy Dale, Whyjae and John Ibe.
