Ever since the destruction brought on by Hurricane Harvey, The Emery/Weiner School has discovered a renewed sense of optimism and spirit. Its sports programs are flourishing, as the varsity football team won its Homecoming game 64-19 against Providence Classical.
Students, faculty and parents came out to support the boys and rally the Jaguars on. Prior to the big game, the football team held a pep rally with grades 6-12, urging them to come out to support them in their quest for a win. Team captain, junior and quarterback Josh Strauss said that what fuels his team the most is the support from classmates and fans. The pep rally energized the whole school, as a wave of spirit cast over each student.
Freshman standout Jack Greenberg had a fumble recovery, a sack and multiple tackles for loss. His energy and passion for the game always kept the crowd on its feet, making this game spirited and fun for all. As I witnessed the game, his spirit was reflective of the school's spirit, which made him an ideal representation of true Jaguar pride.
