As expected for the month after the holiday season, January is pretty empty in terms of concerts. That doesn’t mean there aren’t great shows happening, though! This month, I added a few more non-concert events that you might still find interesting.

Dec. 31/Jan. 1: Check out my NYE article for things to do, including concerts around the city!

Jan. 5-7: Disney’s Fantasia, by the Houston Symphony @ Jones Hall

Watch selections from this classic with live musical accompaniment from the Houston Symphony.

Jan. 6: The Molly Ringwalds @ House of Blues

This '80s cover band is so fun. If you want to dance and sing, this is a great show for all ages.

Jan. 7: Katy Perry ft. Carly Rae Jepson @ Toyota Center

Katy’s new album might’ve been a flop, but she still puts on an involved show. Carly Rae Jepson will be a good addition and a fun opening act.

Jan. 12: Milky Chance @ House of Blues

Milky Chance played at ACL in 2017 and put on a wonderful live show, so this is definitely worth checking out.

Jan. 12-15: Houston Tango Marathon

For 32 hours at the Czech Center Museum of Houston, there will be a tango marathon. Buy tickets for yourself or for you and your tango partner to participate!

Jan. 15: 24th Annual MLK Grande Parade @ Midtown Houston

Join fellow Houstonians in one of the biggest MLK celebrations in the country.

Jan. 17: The Moody Blues @ Smart Financial Centre

An English rock band from the 60s, the Moody Blues are known for hits “Tuesday Afternoon,” “Go Now,” and “Nights in White Satin.”

Jan. 19: Loretta Lynn @ Arena Theatre

Loretta Lynn is a household name if you like country music. She has been singing for over 60 years, and is an absolute legend, especially if you like country music. This show was rescheduled from its original date of Aug. 4, 2017.

Jan. 24: Marilyn Manson @ House of Blues

Creepy yet entertaining. You’ll probably know if this is your cup of tea or not.

Jan. 26: Shakira @ Toyota Center

Shakira ALWAYS brings it. If you’re lucky enough to score tickets to this one, I am so jealous.

Jan. 26: Joe Ely @ The Heights Theatre

Joe Ely again! A huge favorite of mine. Catch him this month at the Heights Theatre.

Jan. 28: Hear the Future @ South Main Baptist Church

On the 28th, the Houston Chamber Choir is hosting this event from 4 to 5:30 pm for the 19th annual invitational choral festival, featuring the music from three different choirs.

Jan. 28: Piano Battle @ The Hobby Center

Watch world-famous pianists battle it out in piano rounds, with winners voted on by the audience.
