Senior year has just begun, which also means that the tradition of Saint Agnes’s fish week festivities is in full swing. In order to welcome our new freshmen into the environment of St. Agnes, seniors pair up with a little sister (fish) each year and create an amazing week of activities.
On the first day of the week, seniors surprise their freshman with baskets for “baby day.” These baskets include fun letters, candy and baby accessories. On the second day, the seniors buy their freshman free dress passes, and donate the money raised to a charity chosen by the senior class. On Thursday, the seniors surprise the fish with a breakfast and their big sister's identity is revealed - everyone is surprised and has a few laughs while getting to know each other. Through the week of fun, St. Agnes seniors ensure that the freshman are orientated to the school environment with ease, making new friends along the way.
On Friday of St. Agnes fish week, each group of senior/freshman pairs chooses a theme to dress up in for a parade around the school. Costume ideas for the groups this year were so creative; for example, there were The Incredibles (seniors) who dressed their freshman as Edna, there were the Aliens who dressed their freshman as astronauts, and so much more. The senior/fish parade is posted on St. Agnes' Facebook page for all to enjoy.
The last day of fish week, Saturday, culminated in the neon dance. This dance is a tradition for every fish week, in which seniors dress up in as much neon as possible and bring their freshman with them. The dance is so fun - everyone is together singing at the top of their lungs and dancing like crazy. Traditionally after the dance, each senior/freshman group has a gathering or sleepover, so everyone can get to know each other better. Ultimately, each St. Agnes freshman comes out of fish week with many new friends and a feeling of comfort within the school. Fish week helps merge the gap between grades, bringing the youngest and oldest classes together for a week of unforgettable fun.
