With December comes the true start of the holiday season. Although you and your family are probably busier than you even imagined, spend some time away from all the madness by supporting live music in Houston. A concert might not take away all the stress of gift buying, traveling and bad holiday traffic, but you’ll enjoy the chance to step away from it all and immerse yourself in the show. I would highly recommend!

Dec. 1: Scotty McCreery @ House of Blues

Scotty McCreery is a country music star who made it big on American Idol at the age of 17. His career has been going strong since 2011 with multiple top hits.

Dec. 4: An Evening with the Clintons @ Smart Financial Centre

Bill and Hillary Clinton are touring the country to a select few cities to interact with live audiences. Houston was included in the cut, so if you’d like to breathe the same air as the Clintons, now is your chance!

Dec. 7: The Temptations and the Commodores @ Arena Theatre

Two legendary all-male Motown groups combine to host a night celebrating soul music.

Dec. 7: Robert Cray @ The Heights Theater

Dec. 7: Holiday on 19th Street @ Shop Heights

This fun holiday market features live music, specials at many of the nearby stores, drinks, and real snow!

Dec. 8 & 9: Elton John @ Toyota Center

So nice, you have the chance to see him twice! This is Elton’s last tour ever, celebrating his 50 year musical career.

Dec. 8: Martina McBride @ Smart Financial Centre

Martina McBride presents “The Joy of Christmas Tour” to promote her upcoming Christmas album, which will be her second Christmas album. The show will feature a full orchestra.

Dec. 9: Beers & Cheers Holiday Market @ St. Arnold’s Brewing Co.

This fun holiday market will feature live music, St. Arnold’s beer, a gift wrapping station, and more. Kids are welcome, as root beer floats will be on hand! Musicians include DJ GONZ and Jonathan Gonzales.

Dec. 10: OneRepublic, Matt Nathanson, etc. @ House of Blues

96.5’s Mixmas also features performances from Brynn Elliott and Ocean Park Standoff.

Dec. 13: Rockets vs. Lakers @ Toyota Center

Not a concert per se, but it’s always interesting to see Lebron James play, and this will be his first time in Houston since joining the Lakers.

Dec. 14: Jason Mraz @ Smart Financial Centre

Mraz, a Grammy winner, is doing an all-acoustic tour this December at Smart Financial. He is releasing his first album in four years, to be released soon.

Dec. 21: Trans-Siberian Orchestra @ Toyota Center

The TSO presents “The Ghosts of Christmas Past” for their 20th consecutive year of touring. There will be two shows on the 21st: one at 3:30 and one at 8.

Dec. 22: Playboi Carti @ Revention Music Center

Playboi Carti is a young rapper most famous for his hit “Magnolia.” He’s also known as a staple in the fashion community, and has modeled for brands including Yeezy.

Dec. 27: Texas Bowl @ NRG Park

Dec. 31: Eli Young Band @ House of Blues
