Event Roundup: What to Look Forward to This Weekend
Happy Friday and happy Go Texan Day! We’ve rounded up some exciting events for you to enjoy this weekend, which is the kickoff of the Houston Rodeo and Mardi Gras Galveston.
Rodeo Bar-B-Que Contest
As you gear up for the 2019 Rodeo, be sure to check out this year’s Bar-B-Que Contest, where more than 250 teams of barbecue aficionados will compete all weekend long. A ticket to the contest gives you a complimentary sliced brisket place, along with access to live music and admission to the carnival.
Mardi Gras Galveston
Drive down to Galveston for the second largest Mardi Gras celebration (after New Orleans of course) – more than 3 million beads will be thrown during the event, which features elaborate parades, headliner performances and plenty of feasting. The event kicks off on Friday with the Pardy Gras! Procession but continues all weekend long!
Family Movie Night at Levy Park
Round up your family for an evening of laughter, wonder and color at Levy Park, where Texas Children’s Hospital is showing the DreamWorks animation, Trolls, at this Friday’s family movie night. Guests are encouraged to dress in colorful clothes and hair-rising hair styles! Food and beverage service from Coffee Q and Auntie Anne’s will be available.
Go Texan Day at Evelyn’s Park
Get into the rodeo spirit on Friday evening with a Go Texan Day celebration at Bellaire’s Evelyn’s Park. Betsy’s at Evelyn’s Park will be serving up some good ole Texas drinks and grub, while The Recollection will be playing some Texas Blue Grass.
Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Run
Start your Saturday morning with a run through downtown Houston with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo’s annual Rodeo Run! Choose from a wheelchair race, 10K or 5K and be sure to stop by Eleanor Tinsley Park afterwards for a post-race celebration. Proceeds from the Rodeo Run benefit the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo!
Bellaire Police Department Dedication Ceremony
Join the community on Saturday morning for a celebration and dedication of the new Bellaire Police Department and Municipal Court Building, located at 5110 Jessamine. The new building is environmentally-friendly and energy efficient, and it features a new multi-purpose room where community groups can meet. Public tours of the building will follow the formal ceremony.
Mardi Gras Madness at Kemah Boardwalk
The Kemah Boardwalk invites you to celebrate Mardi Gras with a Saturday filled with non-stop beads, live music and family fun. The afternoon includes stiltwalkers as well as performances by Dead Stereo and Velvet Punch and will be followed a “Yachty Gras Boat Parade” in the evening.
