The Emery/Weiner School opened the 2019-2020 school year with the annual Opening Ceremonies. This long lasting Emery tradition is the best way for students and faculty to get excited for the new year. Head of School, Stuart Dow, announces the theme for the school year in unique ways. This year it was revealed with giant letters spelling out the phrase: “Dream Big.”
In the ceremony was an inspirational video about change in the United States, which included excerpts from Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have A Dream Speech.” The ceremony also contained Mr. Dow’s legendary “Dow Hits the Streets” video, where he interviews strangers about the theme for the school year. The ceremony also featured many senior performers who spoke, sang or danced about dreams and how they impact our future.
“I still remember my first opening day ceremonies in 6th grade and how impactful it was especially already being so invested in fine arts. I am so thrilled to have had the opportunity to be a part of this meaningful experience for our school community,” says senior Julia Strug.
