The color guard at St. Pius X High School.
As the school year begin so do the fine arts. SPX football season began and the color guard was ready! They were training weeks before the start of school.
The captain, Kate Mytchak, was asked how it felt training the guard and her response was, “It’s a lot of hard work, a lot of sweat, a lot of heat. But come time to game day it’s worth it to be able to perform.”
Clare Carbajal, Kate’s apprentice, said, “It’s a lot of fun. I get to learn the background things like dances and tricks and it helps me get ready in case I want to lead the color guard after Kate leaves.”
Kate is not the only leader; she shares the role with Hannah Sebesta. The two are an award-winning duo and lead the color guard to many performances.
The color guard works side by side with the band and overall enhances the performance level of the marching band.
