Event Roundup: What to Look Forward to This Weekend
Happy Friday! Here are some events to look forward to this weekend:
Theta Charity Antiques Show
The Houston Alumnae Chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta will host the 2019 Theta Charity Antiques Show at the George R. Brown Convention Center this weekend. This year’s event will be the Theta Charity Antiques Show’s grand finale - a celebration of the countless exhibitors, speakers, volunteers, and patrons who have made the show possible since 1952. The lineup of speakers include nationally-renowned design experts. Funds raised will support local charities.
Frostival
Kick off the holiday season with Frostival at Discovery Green on Friday evening. The annual park-wide celebration features ice carving demonstrations by Reverend Butter and DLG Ice Factory, ice sculpture photo opps, skating at The ICE powered by Green Mountain Energy and more. The event also marks the public opening of Paloma, an art installation. The Ice is open through Feb. 2; see details here.
Sugar Land Skeeters Holiday Lights Opening Ceremony
This light display at Constellation Field where the Skeeters play, containing over 3 million lights, is one of the largest in the Greater Houston area. An Opening Night lighting ceremony takes place at 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 22, and the light festivities will run through Jan. 5.
Via Colori
Via Colori features more than 200 local, national and international artists that create impressive chalk murals on the streets of downtown Houston this Saturday and Sunday. The festival also features three stages of live music, Via Bambini family zone and food and beverage vendors over the two-day event. All proceeds from Houston Via Colori benefit The Center for Hearing and Speech.
The Color Run
The Color Run, a five-kilometer, untimed event, takes place at Minute Maid Park starting at 10 a.m. At each kilometer mark, Color Runners are doused from head to toe in a different colored powder. Participants wear white at the starting line and finish the race covered in color. Once the race is over, the fun continues at the Finish Festival, a larger-than-life party equipped with music, dancing, photo ops, activity booths, vendors, and more massive color throws.
Santa’s Workshop in Rice Village
Bring the family to Rice Village on Saturday, 11 a.m.-2 p.m., to celebrate Santa's Workshop. Enjoy photos with Santa, writing letters to Santa, a cookie-decorating station and festive coloring sheets.
Glisten Holiday Lighting
Join in the fun of CityCentre’s annual holiday lighting in the plaza on Saturday beginning at noon. There’s one hundred percent chance of snow in the forecast. Grab a sled and take a ride down the snow slides or build a snowman in the snow box. There will also be a DJ, an ice carving demonstration, hot chocolate and apple cider.
Houston Margarita Festival
This festival held at Water Works Park on Saturday starting at noon features a variety of margarita flavors and live entertainment. This year’s festival benefits the Twi-Light Twelve Foundation Scholarship Fund.
