The College Counseling room displays all the schools in which students have attended from Emery. It is there to inspire younger students to pursue whichever schools they desire.
On Oct. 16, as 9th-11th graders were taking the PSAT, Emery’s seniors gathered in the library for a morning of uninterrupted work time on college applications. Junior and senior year for all students can be really challenging due to the increased workload of college applications. Luckily, Emery has an amazing College Counseling department with three very skilled professionals, Chris Teel, Kate Bolen-Lourie and Ashley Plaeger.
Students can meet with their counselors as little or as often as they please to receive guidance on their college lists, supplemental essays, and even college acceptances. Balancing academics and college work can be very overwhelming, which is why this workshop was extremely helpful to many seniors. This time allowed for them to completely focus on their college work without the distractions of other classwork. If the students had any questions or needed suggestions, the counselors were on hand.
“Our college counseling is extremely beneficial to every student because they make their work personal and pertinent to each student. It’s such a great advantage of Emery that I am extremely fortunate to have,” says senior Jenna Talisman.
We are lucky to have a team of counselors who are so dedicated to us, our pursuits, and our academic careers because it makes our school unique and distinct.
