Markettes Prepare for Contest Season, Make Memories
The first weekend after winter break, the Markettes hit the ground running by traveling to Pine Cove Ranch in Columbus, TX, to prepare for their upcoming contest season. The days were long but extremely productive. In the end, the Markettes completed and polished their sports-themed pom-pom routine and got a great start on their Hurricane Harvey tribute contemporary dance.
“We were able to get so much done while still being able to have so much fun!” junior lieutenant Sofia Alvarez said.
In between dancing, the girls found time to play team bonding games, laugh, and participate in activities like ropes courses, canoeing/kayaking, and hanging out in friends’ cabins.
On Saturday night, the social officers planned a fun Boot Scoot dance, bringing everyone together to dance, karaoke, and play games. The evening ended with roasting marshmallows and making delicious s’ mores.
“Overall, contest retreat was really tiring, but I wouldn’t have changed a thing. I know that the memories of us dancing to cotton eyed joe, and making s’ mores by the bonfire will stay with me long after I graduate,” co-president Melonie Yue said.
Markettes have never done an overnight retreat, and based on its success, the directors are excited about going on one again next year.
