The Knights of Momus, Galveston’s oldest krewe, kicked off this year’s Mardi Gras celebrations with the glamorous “Sail Through Scandinavia” Coronation Presentation and Ball. Highlighting the event was the presentation at The Grand 1894 Opera House of 24 duchesses from Houston and Galveston wearing beautiful gowns in icy colors: Madeleine Barlow, Arabella Benavides, Samantha Bennett, Bailey Black, Natalie Crowder, Alexandra Day, Allison Denman, Jenna Faulkner, Mackenzie Finklea, Mary Garofalo, Abigail Grant, Kathryn Hamilton, Madelyn Hilyard, Amanda Hutchings, Katherine Kemple, Laura Anne Kobs, Holly Kurisky, Francis Kusnerik, Olivia McGuire, Haley Patterson, Heather Patterson, Nicole Shanks, Hannah Sukkar and Annie Titterington. Tom Koch announced King Frivolous CV Richard Gary Peters, and Momus Queen Francis Margaret Kusnerik, a junior at Texas State University and Peters’ granddaughter, made a grand entrance on a wooden chariot. The grand gala, chaired by Hayley and Jason Hardcastle, was at The Galveston Island Convention Center at The San Luis Resort.
