The parade goes on
Julie Dickinson, Parker Elementary’s art teacher, had worked with students for nearly seven months to design an art car. Students were looking forward to cheering on the bright yellow car decorated with musical instruments, a nod to the school’s music-magnet status, in the 2020 Houston Art Car Parade. The popular event was cancelled due to the pandemic. Ms. D. drove the lion-themed car down the streets of Westbury with husband Ryan Dilbert so students could admire their work of art. She marked her route on a map she posted online, and the timing coincided with Parker music students’ quarantine flash mob. That day happened to be Ms. D’s birthday, and students played and sang “Happy Birthday” to their teacher.
