The Memorial High School girls basketball team collected more than $1,000 in gift cards for B.I.G. Love Cancer Care, an organization that provides assistance to families of childhood-cancer patients. Before the start of a game, the players presented their donations, and then senior Claire Justice sang the national anthem. After facing tough competition, the Mustangs came back to win the game. The eventful competition was followed up by a trip to the playoffs, where the girls won the first round for the first time since 2005. The Lady Mustangs are (top row, from left) Alexandra Pappas, Claire Justice, Mary Lacy Rieke, Mackenzie McKown, Nicki Polocheck, Mary Fielder, and Giana Vlahakos; (bottom row, from left) Sophie Meckert, Abigail Tomaski, and Riley McCloskey; not pictured: Vanessa Nunley and Morgan Matheny.
