As the doors re-open for the new school year, the Stratford Link Crew is busy at work preparing to welcome the Class of 2025 to campus. Link Crew is a transitional program hosted by a team of enthusiastic junior and senior school leaders ready to welcome freshmen students to high school.
“The goal is to have fun and make students feel comfortable in their new school setting, especially after the crazy year we had last year,” says Emma Podvorec, Link Leader Training Day Chair.
Link Crew starts with a fun-filled orientation day where freshmen begin developing relationships and strategies to be successful in high school. Students can meet each other and learn their way around campus in a laid-back way. Emma points out that Link Crew was pivotal in helping her make new friends.
“Especially with upperclassmen and people from other middle schools,” she said. “It made me want to get more involved at Stratford, and I feel like I am a more well-rounded and successful student because of the experience.”
After orientation and throughout the year, Link Crew leaders continue to meet with their freshmen during Spartan time.
“Some weeks, Link Crew will lead their class in different competitions, and other weeks, leaders will lead round table discussions about topics like homecoming, GPA, and preparation for finals,” said Crystal Fain, Stratford teacher and co-director of the group.
As a group, the Crew wants all students to know that people at school care about them and their success. Crystal defines a successful Link leader as “friendly, understanding, and caring.”
“Most importantly, we hope to make Stratford a place where freshmen are welcomed, included, and knowledgeable about all things that make Spartan life great.”
