Event Roundup: What to Look Forward to This Weekend

Happy Friday! For many families, it’s back-to-school time. If you’re looking to soak up those last few days of summer together, here are some weekend happenings, including lots of Houston sports: 

Mixers & Elixirs
Party after-hours at the Houston Museum of Natural Science with Mixers & Elixirs on Friday, starting at 7 p.m. Enjoy the dance floor, cash bars, and food trucks. Admission is $25.

Houston Astros vs. Oakland Athletics   
The Astros take on the Athletics on Friday, 7:10 p.m., Saturday, 6:10 p.m., and Sunday, 1:10 p.m.

Houston Dash vs. Racing Louisville FC 
The Houston Dash take on the Racing Louisville FC at PNC Stadium, Friday, 7:30 p.m. 

Hip-Hop Hooray! at Children's Museum Houston  
A DJ, local rappers, singers and dancers all perform at the Children's Museum, for this fun-filled celebration of all things hip hop, Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

Second Saturday at Sawyer Yards 
Peruse art from more than 350 open art studios at Sawyer Yards at their monthly Second Saturday event, 12-5 p.m. Wander through the six studio buildings and discover an extensive selection of art, sculpture, jewelry, photography, clothing, and more. Free admission. 

5th Annual Houston Reggae Fest 
The 5th Annual Houston Reggae Fest will feature national and local artists on three different stages at Hermann Square, Saturday, 1-10 p.m. The music lineup includes Gyptian, Kevin Lyttle, The Meditations, Jemere Morgan, DJ Maga Stories, and more. Tickets: $15. 

A League of Their Own Film Screening at MFAH 
Celebrate the 30th anniversary of classic baseball movie A League of Their Own (1992) at this special screening at Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, on Saturday, starting at 2 p.m. Author and film professor Grant Wiedenfeld will introduce the film. His new book, Hollywood Sports Movies and the American Dream, includes a chapter about it, and will be available for sale and signing after the movie. Houston's International Sports Film Festival is partnering with Films at the Museum of Fine Arts to offer discounted $5 advance tickets with promo code HISFF.

Preseason: Houston Texas vs. New Orleans Saints
Fall means football season. The Texans kick off the preseason at NRG Center vs. the New Orleans Saints, Saturday at 7:30 p.m.  

Houston Dynamo FC vs. CF Montreal  
The Houston Dynamo face off against CF Montreal at PNC Stadium, Saturday, 8 p.m. The game is a 713 Night, with $7 tickets, $1 hot dogs, and $3 beers.

Summer Block Party at Levy Park  
This Sunday is the final event of the Summer Block Party Series presented by Texas Children’s Hospital at Levy Park this summer. This free event, 5-7 p.m., features live music, bubble stations, games, and children’s activities. This Sunday, DJ Mohawk Steve & Legacy Man will perform.
