Happy Friday and happy Hallo-weekend! Here, find a list of Halloween happenings over the weekend plus Monday and Tuesday, including family-friendly and 21+ events. Below, we’ve highlighted some buzzy weekend events. Have a safe and sweet Halloween!
City of West U’s Full Moon Fest
West U’s annual Full Moon Fest takes place tonight, starting at 5:30 p.m. at Colonial Park Pavilion. Families will enjoy bounce houses, face painting, activity booths, a pumpkin patch, and a costume contest. The free festivities will conclude with a showing of the featured film Mummies (PG) starting at 7 p.m.
Scream on the Green
Discovery Green presents Scream on the Green, Houston’s citywide Halloween celebration, tonight from 6-10 p.m. The free event includes a costume contest, music, roaming characters by Cirque Olympus, and a screening of Hocus Pocus.
Calavera Con Calavera Produced By FLAS
The University of Houston-Downtown and Nancy Yliria will return with LIVE Mariachi for their musical numbers of traditional Mexican songs and dances with Houston Ballet Folklorico, accompanied by Danza Chikawa, tonight at Miller Outdoor Theatre, 7:30 p.m. This performance, produced by FLAS featuring Grupo de Teatro Indigo, will be in Spanish with English subtitles. Free to attend.
West U Halloween Dash & Kids Fun Run
Dress in costume and dash through West U on Saturday, starting at 8 a.m. Race options include a competitive 5K course and an untimed 1-mile Kids’ Fun Run. Once the race concludes, there will be a costume contest and awards ceremony. Pricing ranges from $35-45. Proceeds benefit the City of West U’s Parks and Recreation Department.
Monster Mash Bash at Children’s Museum Houston
Children’s Museum Houston has been transformed into Children’s Boo!seum Houston this month, with tons of spooky fun for kids. On Saturday, the museum hosts the Monster Mash Bash, funded in part by City of Houston through Houston Arts Alliance. Dance to music by DJ Beetlejuice, make a monster during a wicked workshop, dissect owl pellets, and learn how to do the Thriller dance.
Willow Waterhole’s MusicFEST
The 11th annual MusicFEST at the Willow Waterhole Greenway, a free, one-day family-friendly festival featuring live music, Halloween-themed activities, community booths, and great food and drink, takes place on Saturday, 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Professional bands and bands from local schools will perform throughout the day. There will be a Halloween "Trunk or Treat," an inflatable haunted maze bounce house, a mortals and dogs costume parade, games, prizes, and more.
Día De Muertos Festival
MECA's Día de Muertos Festival is a free community celebration of Latin American folk art traditions that honor family and ancestry. This year's Día de Muertos two-day celebration will offer children's art activities, an ofrendas/altar exhibition, artist and artisan vendors, festival foods, and three performance stages with performances by MECA Ballet Folklórico, EZ Band, Grupo Aliados, and others. The festival takes place Saturday and Sunday, 11 a.m.-7 p.m. both days, and is free to attend.
Day of the Dead Celebration at MATCH
Intempo Dance Ensemble presents an evening of dance and music inspired in the magical world of the Day of the Dead celebration. Colorful Catrinas and Sugar Skulls dance, surrounded by live music and guided by imaginary beings - Alebrijes - as they journey to their new home. The celebration takes place at MATCH, Saturday, 7 p.m. and tickets range from $15-25.
City Of Stars Produced By Houston Chamber Choir
Houston Chamber Choir presents an evening of Hollywood hits on Saturday, 7:30 p.m., at Miller Outdoor Theatre. Spend an evening under the stars enjoying your favorites, such as Judy Garland’s “Over the Rainbow” and Barbara Streisand’s iconic rendition of “The Way We Were,” to “A Star is Born” with Lady Gaga. And be prepared to sing along! Free to attend.
Howl-O-Ween Dog Parade and Costume Contest
Levy Park's 6th annual Howl-O-Ween Dog Parade and Costume Contest presented by H-E-B will take place Sunday, 4-6 p.m. The event will kick off with a pup parade around the park followed by a costume contest where contestants will strut the “runway” for the chance to win pup-tastic prizes. Free to attend.
Bellaire Diwali 2023
Bellaire's Diwali celebration, held at Bellaire-Zindler Park on Sunday, 5:30-9 p.m., will include entertainment and delicious Indian food. The festival is organized by Bellaire Desi Group. Admission: $45: adults; $20 (children ages 5-12).
Houston Rockets vs. Golden State Warriors
In the regular season home opener, the Rockets take on the Golden State Warriors at Toyota Center, Sunday, 6 p.m. Tickets are $59+.
