Event Roundup: What's Open and Happening This Weekend
We hope you’re all staying safe and cool after the chaos of Hurricane Beryl. If you’re looking for some AC – or just looking to get out of the house and enjoy some much-needed fun with the family – here are some ideas. Also, this Saturday, July 13 is 713 Day – a particularly fitting time to show some love to our city.

MFAH Summer Playdate
The Museum of Fine Arts Houston is open to the public with power post-Hurricane Beryl. Some of their planned events have been canceled, but the museum is open. This Friday at 11 a.m, the MFAH is hosting one of its Summer Playdates for children 4 and under. Accompanied by their adult caregiver and Museum staff, kids will explore the exhibits, sing songs, listen to stories, and enjoy an art sensory experience inspired by MAOTIMA’s work Tapiz (Tapestry). Tickets are available for purchase online and are $10 for adults and children.
Astros vs. Rangers
What better way to show our Houston pride than to cheer on the Astros at Minute Maid?! The Astros are facing the Rangers at home on Friday night at 7:10 p.m., Saturday afternoon at 3:10 p.m., and Sunday at 1:10 p.m. Tickets start at $16 and are available to purchase online.
Levy Park Sunset Bingo
Levy Park sustained significant damage due to Hurricane Beryl and restoration and cleanup is ongoing. The park is open for visitors; please just exercise caution and steer clear of cleanup crews. Bingo night is on tonight, 6-9 p.m. (games start at 7 p.m.) benefiting the park. Bring a blanket or use the park's furniture and enjoy tunes from DJ Del Sur while you enjoy special concessions and games of bingo. $10 (cash only) purchases one bingo packet with 8 games. Sunset Bingo is family- and pet-friendly. Kids under the age of 18 must be accompanied by their parent or guardian. Mobile Cat, a special pop-up by Money Cat, will be serving sandos, bao buns, sushi rolls, desserts, cocktails, beer, wine, and more from the Levy Park red bus. Gaspachos Mexican Bites has tacos, tortas, elote, mangonadas, fruit cups, beer, margaritas and more! Kind Ice Cream will be offering a 10 percent discount to all Bingo players. Summer Symphony Nights
Post Hurricane Beryl, Miller is in good shape with power. Miller hosts its annual Summer Symphony Nights program, which kicks off this Friday at 8:30 p.m. with a performance of American Masterworks. On Saturday evening, beginning at 8:30 p.m., violinist Blake Pouliot will be joining the Symphony to perform Tchaikovsky.
Movie Night on the Lawn at POST Houston
POST Houston is partnering with the Houston Cinema Arts Society to host an all-ages Ghostbusters movie night on their rooftop Skylawn. They will be showing Ghostbusters at 8 p.m. Concessions will be available for purchase as well as food and beverages from POST’s vendors. Admission to the event is free, and you can RSVP online.
Children’s Museum Houston Presents Play it Cool on 713 Day
Children's Museum Houston is hosting a Frozen-inspired adventure for families for 713 Day on Saturday, starting at 9 a.m. There will be chilly activities, special events, and huge displays. The special events include a Frozen singalong, Liquid Nitrogen Demos, and DLG Ice Factory-Live Ice Sculpting. Tickets are $19.95 for children and adults.
713 Day at Color Factory
Looking for a place to celebrate 713 Day and show some Houston pride? The Color Factory has plenty of Houston-themed family fun with a NASA-inspired ball pit, colors and scents of the Bayou city in Chromaroma, a Texas desert-themed confetti room, and free ice cream with every ticket. To celebrate 713 Day, the Color Factory is providing 15 percent off to anyone who uses the code “COLOR713” at checkout tickets online.
713 Day at Houston Botanic Garden
In honor of 713 Day, the Houston Botanic Garden will offer discounted entry of just $7.13 per person all day long on Saturday. Plus, since 713 Day falls on one of the Garden's Summer Saturdays with extended hours, there's even more time to enjoy the garden, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. The discounted rate also applies toward admission to a special Birding 101 presentation and bird bingo with the Houston Audubon at 6 p.m. In the wake of Beryl, the Garden has extended the $7.13 discount through Sunday as well.
Saint Arnold Downtown Pub Crawl
Celebrate 713 Day this Saturday with the Saint Arnold Brewery annual Downtown Pub Crawl. All the participating bars have power, A/C, and ice cold Saint Arnold beer ready for you. Put on your Houston gear and join in from 2-6 p.m. for an afternoon of beers culminating in an afterparty at Market Square Park. If you go to five of the participating bars ( Flying Saucer, McIntyre’s, Underground Hall, Angel Share, Shay McElroy’s, Little Dipper, Molly’s Pub) you’ll earn a commemorative Saint Arnold Pub Crawl pint glass.
Play and Help Out at Hermann Park
Hermann Park's The Commons Play Gardens and Centennial Gardens are open as well as the Carousel, Pedal Boats, and Hermann Park Railroad. The park’s hours are from 6 a.m.-11 p.m. Hermann Park is looking for volunteers to help clean up the area after Hurricane Beryl this Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Volunteers will rake and clear debris along paths and near the Park Commons. If you would like to help, meet the clean up crew at 9a.m. at either the Wortham. Pavillion or Conservancy Office.
Downtown Aquarium Shark Day
The Downtown Aquarium is hosting a Shark Day on Sunday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., to raise awareness for shark conservation. Activities include meeting Sharkey the mascot, shark-themed crafts, educator chats, meeting shark divers, and a shark voyage train. Exhibit tickets are available to purchase online and start at $17.
Celebrate Bastille Day at Rice Stadium
The Consulate General of France in Houston is hosting a Bastille Day celebration this Sunday at 5 p.m. Festivities will include dancing and sports competitions for attendees in honor of the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics and showcase the diversity of French music and cuisine. Tickets are free, but seats are limited. Reserve your spot online.
